Makruzz — The Classic Choice

Makruzz has operated in the Andamans since 2009 and is often considered the benchmark for private ferry travel here. Four vessels came back on the sailings we checked — Makruzz, Makruzz Gold, Makruzz Pearl and Makruzz Ruby — all air-conditioned twin-hulls, typically punctual and well-maintained. One thing to watch: Makruzz Pearl’s Port Blair to Havelock sailing is not the ordinary 90-minute crossing. It is a packaged service routed via Baratang, departing 05:45 and reaching Havelock at 13:30, and the ticket covers the Baratang leg. Read the schedule detail before you book it.

Why choose Makruzz:

  • Joint-fastest crossing — Port Blair to Havelock is scheduled at 90 minutes on Makruzz, Makruzz Gold and Makruzz Ruby, the same as Nautika
  • Three seat classes — Premium, Deluxe and Royal
  • Punctual departures with a strong safety record
  • Onboard refreshments and clean toilets

Drawbacks:

  • The widest fare spread of the three: Port Blair to Havelock ran ₹1,250 to ₹4,450 across the sailings checked
  • Sells out fastest — book at least a week ahead in peak season

Best for: Families, first-time visitors, anyone who values comfort and reliability above price.

Nautika — The Best Middle Ground

Nautika entered the Andaman market a few years after Makruzz and has built a strong reputation for comfort at a slightly lower price point.

Why choose Nautika:

  • Comfortable A/C seating comparable to Makruzz
  • Typically a little cheaper than Makruzz once you are past the entry fare — both start at ₹1,250 on Port Blair to Havelock, but the median Nautika sailing came out below the median Makruzz one
  • Good punctuality record
  • Clean, modern vessels

Drawbacks:

  • Fewer departures than Makruzz on some routes
  • Business class experience not quite as premium as Makruzz

Best for: Travellers who want Makruzz-level comfort without the Makruzz price. An excellent all-rounder.

Green Ocean — The Budget Pick

Green Ocean ferries are the most affordable option and a perfectly reasonable choice for budget-conscious travellers.

Why choose Green Ocean:

  • Lowest fares on most routes
  • Decent seating — not as plush, but comfortable enough
  • Good coverage across all major routes

Drawbacks:

  • Slower journey times — 120 to 135 minutes on Port Blair to Havelock, against 90 for Makruzz and Nautika
  • Economy is the plainest cabin of the nine on offer across the three operators, though the feed does list air-conditioning on all three Green Ocean classes

Best for: Backpackers, budget travellers, or anyone taking a short hop (like Havelock to Neil Island).

ITT Majestic — The Quieter Option

ITT Majestic is a 200-passenger high-speed ferry designed by an Australian naval architect, running in the Andamans since 2016. The smaller capacity gives the sailings a less crowded onboard feel. Two classes, Silver and Majesty, both air-conditioned. ITT Majestic did not return a single sailing in the Go2Andaman schedules feed on any of the 48 sector-and-date queries checked on 27 August 2026, spanning 2026-08-28 to 2027-02-14, so there is no fare to quote here and no ITT sailing to book through the search above. Whether that means the service has stopped or is simply sold elsewhere is not something we can establish from the feed — check with the operator directly before planning around it.

Best for: Travellers who prefer a quieter cabin, or as a fallback when Makruzz and Nautika are sold out.

Which Should You Book?

  • Comfort and reliability matter most -> Makruzz or Nautika
  • Travelling on a budget -> Green Ocean is the lowest-fare option
  • Short hop (Havelock to Neil) -> Makruzz, Nautika and Green Ocean all appeared on this sector; direct schedules can be limited on some days, so check live availability
  • Travelling with children or elderly -> Makruzz or Nautika for the smoother, faster ride
  • Avoiding crowds onboard -> ITT Majestic’s lower capacity

Pro Tips

Mix operators for flexibility. Book your outbound on Makruzz (morning slot) and return on Nautika or Green Ocean if the price difference is significant.

Compare prices in one search. Use the ferry search form on this site to see all available operators, times, and prices for your date in one view — no need to check each operator’s website separately.
